History of Woodstream
Woodstream Church (founded as Landover Memorial Baptist Church) conducted its first worship service on Sunday, June 26, 1983, in the Kenmore Middle School, Landover, Maryland. Nine weeks later, Sunday June 26, 1983, the church conducted its Organizational Service in which it adopted the Church Constitution and By-Laws, Church Covenant, Articles of Faith, and Charter. Dr. R. H. Fitzpatrick, Pastor of the Riverdale Baptist Church, Upper Marlboro, Maryland, presided over this service. Reverend Robert A. Wingfield, the founder of Woodstream Church, was installed as its Pastor, and eleven adult members signed the Charter.
On September 27, 1984, the church purchased a 1.277-acre lot in Landover, Maryland. On Easter Sunday, March 29, 1989, the church conducted its first service in the newly constructed sanctuary. In the spring of 1992, the church broke ground for the constructing of its two-story educational wing. The educational wing was completed and dedicated in August 1992. To God be the glory!
Over the next five years the church continued to grow at a phenomenal rate, necessitating three morning worship services. In the spring of 1997 the church voted to move its services to Eleanor Roosevelt High School to better accommodate its members and Sunday School Department. On May 6, 1999, the church successfully purchased 15 acres of land in Mitchellville, Maryland. In the fall of 2003 the church moved into its new 81,000 square foot facility.
That same year Woodstream Christian Academy was established. On January 6, 2008, Woodstream Church granted a charter to the Fellowship of Regents of the establishment of Woodstream College, an evangelical liberal arts college.
The history of Woodstream Church is precious to those who have persevered and walked by faith. The future of the church by the grace of God shall be glorious. To God be the glory!
